AIMS TTP awards the 1st recipients of the Best Mathematics Lessons Competition

On the 18th of January, 2019, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Teacher Training Program in partnership with Mastercard foundation awarded some of the six recipients of the first edition of the Best Mathematics Lessons on the 18th of January 2019, at the AIMS Teacher Training Laboratory in Yaoundé.

The Best Lesson Competition was launched on the 21st of September 2018, in order to spur the teachers in producing innovative teaching and learning strategies that’ll pique the students’ interest in Mathematics, to Identify pedagogical talents, and also prod them to be pro-active on the Community of Practice (CoP) platform.

In all the 80 lessons (12 from the English and 68 from the French sub-systems of education) submitted, 6 lessons were chosen by the grand jury made up of some Master Trainers, to receive the encouragement prizes. These prizes were dubbed as such because no lesson scored 45/60 which was the winners’ hallmark.

Author(s) of each of these lessons received a cash price of 50.000 frs.

This training is a reconfirmation of the AIMS-NEI mission to propel Africa’s brightest students to their ultimate potential by motivating teachers through competitions by unleashing and igniting the creatives in them which will fine tune their pedagogy, thus making more students interested in mathematics at an early stage and grooming them into the much-needed problem solvers for our continent.
